Greetings duelers! XaeSword here again with another tutorial guide for Hero Editor.
In this guide, we're going to look at making Rare quality items in Hero Editor. The process is very simple, once you know how it works. The biggest thing to remember, is that any given rare item can spawn 4-6 affixes, with a maximum of 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes. Having 4 prefixes and 2 suffixes, or vice-versa, is not possible. However, it is possible to have 5 mods and have 2 suffixes and 3 prefixes, or vice-versa, as well as 3 prefixes and 1 suffix with 4 mods.
What are prefixes and suffixes, you ask? Well, I don't have an exact definition in context to Diablo II, but if you go to this Affix Calculator, choose the item you are trying to make, and hit "Show Affixes" at the bottom, you will see a page similar to this;
The very second column from the left, after "Name," is "Prefix/Suffix." About halfway down the top part, which is shaded a lighter gray than the bottom part, you will see a "P" in this column, meaning Prefix. The same goes for the bottom, darker colored part, except you will see an "S," for Suffix. In this screenshot, I have chosen "Diadem" as the item I wanted to see the affixes for. I would choose 3 prefixes from the top half of the page, and 3 suffixes from the bottom part of the page, and then I would have myself a rare circlet made exactly how I wanted it. This rule applies to ANY rare item you want to make. The only exception is jewels, which can only spawn 4 affixes, which can be 1/3, 2/2, or 3/1. Another note, class items such as Scepters for Paladins, Orbs for Sorceresses, Druid Pelts, etc., can spawn +3 to 3 class skills, as well as the 6 affixes of a rare, meaning the item would have a total of 9 "mods" on it.
Making the item in Hero Editor is very easy, basically you'll want to "create" the item using the Extras screen, in the "Item/Character Create" tab.
For the sake of this guide, let's create a Rare quality Diadem. Click the "+" next to "All Items," then click the "+" next to "Armor." Expand the "Elite" section, and open "Circlet," then select "Diadem." You should see the picture of the item appear in the box to the right, and a short description of the item's stats and possible set items that it spawns as in the center column. Click the "Save New Item To PickedUp" button, and press the "Close" button on the Extras window.
The item should now be in the "PickedUp" box in the "Person" tab of the "Inventory" screen.
Right click the item, and click the top option, "General Edit of Item (in Extras Window)."
You should see a screen similar to this;
To make the item actually Rare quality, we'll need to go to the "Quality" section, in the center column. Click on the word "Quality," then in the right most column, click "Change Item's Quality." When you get to the next screen, select the desired quality, "Rare," in this case. Then click, "Save Modified Item" at the bottom of the center column. Always remember to save the item AND your character often. The item is now rare quality, and you're ready to add your affixes.
Remember to reference the affix calculator as you add affixes, so you know you get exactly what you want, and that it's legit. Go to the "Magic" section in the Extras window, for the Diadem. Click anywhere in the right most column, and you should see this;
Click the drop-down arrow in the right column. Here are all the categories for the affixes you wish to add. Almost all of the affixes you want to find are in obvious categories, others might take a bit of searching, but they ARE there. Now you should be able to add your 6 affixes in the manner you want, and create any rare item you will need.
If you have any questions, feel free to post on this thread, or PM Cyber_Punk, M1n1on, or myself, and as always, keep it legit.
